The KL Bar Professional Development Committee and the Association of Women Lawyers (AWL) are jointly organising a Seminar by Daniel Lo on Tuesday, 27 January 2015 from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm at the KL Bar Auditorium, 4th Floor, Wisma Hangsam, No.1, Jalan Hang Lekir, 50000 Kuala Lumpur.
About the Seminar
Human trafficking or more properly understood as modern-day slavery where the focus is upon the exploitation of a victim by a perpetrator is a world-wide phenomenon which exists in every country in the world. It has been estimated that there are over 27 million victims currently in the situation of modern-day slavery, including forced labour, sex trafficking and organ harvesting. All these various forms of human trafficking have the elements of exploitation of a victim by a perpetrator where the victim is unable to escape arising from the use of fraud, force or coercion.
In Malaysia, modern-day slavery is faced by many migrant workers, refugees, asylum seekers and foreign spouses totaling close to 5 million. The Malaysian Government on average rescues about 3 victims daily and thus far since the inception of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act in 2007 has rescued over 3,000 persons.
